This picturesque fishing port dates back to the founding of a trading post in 1868. In the late 19th century dikes and drainage works transformed the boggy marshlands of the nearby Skagit Flats into fertile farmland. Hops and oats were early boom crops; today flower bulbs are an important crop. The 1869 Magnus Anderson Cabin, at the corner of 2nd and Commercial streets, is the oldest building in town.
